Glens Falls City School District will host the 2015 Region 6 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament —
Saturday, March 14, 2015!

March 4, 2015 — A total of 400 elementary through high school students from 26 different schools will demonstrate their creativity and ingenuity on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament taking place at the Glens Falls High School.

The event, which begins at 8 am and is open to the public, is sponsored by the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES Enrichment Resource Center.

This exciting event will feature 63 teams competing to show their solutions to one of five long-term problems, and each must be completed in under 8 minutes start to finish.

Each team is also going to be challenged with a “spontaneous
problem,” which they will be presented with and must solve on the spot.

Winners from this regional competition will move on to the State
competition to be held on April 11 at SUNY Binghamton. State winners will move on to the World Finals to be held at Michigan State University on May 20 -23.

The New Vision Engineering Program along with SUNY Career Academy will be sharing information and demonstrating components of their programs throughout the day.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, State, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from 25 other countries participate in the program.

In case of snow, the Tournament will take place at the same location (Glens Falls High School) on Sunday, March 15, 2015.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international STEAM-based creative problem-solving program for students from kindergarten through college. Students work in teams and use their creativity, knowledge, and skill to develop solutions to problems that range from the technical to the structural to performance.

This is a terrific opportunity to ask questions and learn what it means to help support a team as a team member, parent, or coach or support our tournament as a judge or tournament volunteer. Please join us on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the WSWHE BOCES: 27Gick Road, Plaza 15 Building A, Saratoga Springs. coaches needed!

Help make the STEM connection for Glens Falls students by becoming an Odyssey of the Mind Coach! Every team needs an adult coach to supervise them (but not to help them solve the problem). When you volunteer as an Odyssey of the Mind coach, you provide students with an opportunity to use their creativity in ways that they might not get to anywhere else. And it’s a great way to get involved in your child’s learning experience.

Come learn how you can become an Odyssey of the Mind coach! It’s a rewarding experience for kids and adults alike!
