Welcome new families!

Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) is a special program established by the New York State Education Department, which partners with local school districts to provide a preschool experience for the children of eligible families. Children attend the program Monday through Friday for 2 1/2 hours each day, as a member of the morning or afternoon classes. Transportation to and from UPK is not provided.

The program starts each year in September, and spots are filled through a lottery process in the spring. We accept applications for children who will be four years old by December 1st of the current school year and live in the Glens Falls City School District.

UPK HOURS OF SESSION:

A.M. Session 9:00 a.m.—11:30 a.m.
P.M. Session 12:30 p.m.—3:00 p.m.

UPK Lottery to be held in mid-April for 2017-18 classes

If your son or daughter is a resident in the Glens Falls City School district and will be four years old by December 1, 2017, he or she is eligible to enter the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) class for 2017-18. This free, half-day, full-year program is focused on teaching the fundamentals of literacy and beginning math—all in a creative and stimulating environment, and taught by highly qualified and caring educators.

Glens Falls City School District continues the UPK program each year, pending the approval of funding by New York State. Transportation to and from the program is the parents’ responsibility. The program is held at Jackson Heights Elementary school. Parents should indicate their preference for the morning or afternoon session when registering.

Entry into the UPK class is determined by lottery each spring. To the right, parents and guardians can find the registration form, health office requirements, and other paperwork to enter the lottery for UPK. All application forms are also available in the main offices at each school building. These completed forms, along with proof of residency, an immunization record and the child’s birth certificate, should be submitted to the District Office (15 Quade Street) by April 13, 2017. Families will be notified of the lottery results by May 12, 2017.

Questions can be directed to Trent Clay, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at 792-0107.
