February 12, 2014 — “They help us succeed, get us things that we need, and support us every day/It’s fun to be in the Big Cross PTA! It’s fun to be in the Big Cross PTA!” Those words, sung to the tune of the catchy ‘70s song, “YMCA,” were just a few of the spirited accolades bestowed upon this year’s winners of the highest Parent-Teacher Association honors.

Eight individuals were honored at the district’s annual Founders’ Day event, held at the Middle School on Tuesday, February 11. The evening was a celebration of committed parent volunteers and/or staff members from each school. Each honoree had been selected to recognize his or her service and dedication to go above and beyond for the students of Glens Falls City Schools.

Songs, skits, and heartfelt tributes were part of the evening event, which included a visit from “Abraham Lincoln” (Patricia Vanderpool),and singing groups of Middle School teachers, high school students and a staff-student ensemble from Big Cross. This year’s event even featured an “acceptance song,” performed by Geri Lynn Teta and Holly Schulze on guitar.
