Jackson Heights entered NY Lottery’s “New York Sings Contest”

March 11, 2014 -- The students at Jackson Heights Elementary recently participated in the New York State Lottery "New York Sings" contest.

Students in Grades K-4 performed and recorded the Andrew Gold song "Thank You for Being a Friend.” Under the direction of Music Teacher Cari Kassebaum and Library Technology Aide Amanda Burt, the students created a 1 minute video which was submitted to the contest in early March.

On Thursday, March 13, we’ll learn whether the Jackson Heights submission is one of the top five finalists in the contest to win $10,000 for the music education program. Public voting for the winning performance will take place on the Lottery’s Facebook page.
