The team collected garbage in and around the park for several hours on May 4. “Emily Parent, Key Club member, contacted me a few weeks ago to ask if Builders Club members would join Key Club members with the cleanup, said fifth-grade teacher Sharon Varney, who advises the Builders Club.

Builders Club, at the middle school, and Key Club, at the high school, are both student groups devoted to service, character-building, and leadership development. These clubs are part of Kiwanis International, a volunteer service organization.

Five middle school students volunteered their time for this cleanup project: Emily Barber, Karley Barber Katie Culliton, Kaylee Frank, and Ethan Schrammel. Additional members of the Barber family also stayed to help with the effort.

High School students Andrew Bulmer, Lauren Dwyre, Melanie Catone, Liz DeAvila, Ali Casertino, Bella Winston, Mia Cote, Mayr Sawyer, Matt Parent, Emily Parent, Sam Gohn, Jackie Hogan, and Ethan Katz all participated in the work day.

“The Key Club members brought treats and drinks for all of us to share after the cleanup,” said Mrs. Varney. “It was fun.”
