Cheering fans recognized many of Glens Falls’ senior athletes at the Grandstanders Senior Sports Award Banquet on May 14. More than 200 people attended the annual celebratory dinner at Heritage Hall, where student-athletes in every sport were honored for their accomplishments.

Grandstanders’ 2014 Senior Sports Award scholarship winners are: Joe Hill (hockey and lacrosse), Tanner Sax (football, basketball, soccer, tennis), Noah Duell (cross-country running, Nordic ski and track), Emily Parent (swimming, alpine skiing, and track), Adair Purner (field hockey, alpine ski, and lacrosse), and Skylar Girard (soccer, basketball, and softball).

Student-athletes Megan Kanofsky, and Andrew Corlew along with Athletic Director Chip Corlew stand with the award and a banner encouraging spectators to be positive at the entrance to Putt LaMay Memorial Field.

“If you look at what these student-athletes have in common, not only are they very good athletes, but they’re hard workers both in and out of the classroom,” said Athletic Director Chip Corlew. To be considered for one of the $500 scholarships, the student-athletes must have maintained at least a “B” average, be a solid role model, and letter in at least one varsity sport.

The Grandstanders Sports Booster Club's mission is to promote and support all Glens Falls athletic programs by providing financial assistance and a volunteer "workforce" to help provide a quality experience for every student athlete.

GFSD wins Section 2 Sportsmanship Award

The Glens Falls City School District Athletic Program was also honored with the Sportsmanship Promotion Program Award by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. This commendation—the only one in Section 2—was awarded to GFSD for exemplary effort in encouraging sportsmanship during the 2013-14 athletic season.
