November 27, 2013 -- The fourth-graders in Big Cross Elementary's newly-formed service club made posters and public-address announcements to encourage fellow students to bring in canned and boxed food for the school’s annual food drive.
For several weeks, students brought in items to fill up a borrowed shopping cart that was parked in the school’s front hallway. On the Friday before Thanksgiving, service club members personally delivered the food to the Salvation Army’s donation center.
“The kids felt so proud,” said teacher Trina Miner. “All the volunteers there cheered for them after we got the food inside.”
Big Cross students also enjoyed their traditional school-wide Thanksgiving Breakfast on Tuesday morning before the holiday, featuring baked goodies, festive paper hats, and plenty of smiles from the PTA volunteers who helped make it happen.
