November 27, 2013 -- The kindergarten and first grades at Jackson Heights Elementary performed onstage Tuesday for a full house of parents and family members attending their Thanksgiving Breakfast.
“One by one we count our blessings,” the children sang, “As we come to share this bread, Let us gather round the table, Join our hands and all give thanks.”
Students had learned the American Sign Language signs for many words within the song, and signed as they sang. Breakfast provided by the GFSD food services staff followed the performance.
Jackson Heights students also just completed a food drive during the month of November, collecting more than 300 items. The classrooms of Mrs. Hagy, Miss Cremo, Mr. Donohue, and Mrs. Williams were the front-runners. Collected food went to the Salvation Army, and another holiday food drive begins Monday, Dec. 2.
"I am so proud of JH students for the amount of giving they
collectively do," said principal Carrie Mauro. "They really
stop and think about others and are learning the importance of
giving to others!"
