December 12, 2013 — High school social studies teacher Jeffrey Dock is the latest member of the Glens Falls faculty to have achieved National Board Certification! Mr. Dock has been newly credentialed—a multi-year process that involves and extensive assessment of teaching practice portfolios and constructed response exercises.
This fine teacher joins Stephanie Ruel, Jessica Spellberg, Carole Geruso, Colleen Rayno, Denise Nolan, Donna Bates, Patty Irion, Annmarie Cipollo, Jason Brechko, Doug Hoyne, Rob Amberger, and Patty Savin as National Board Certified Teachers. Diane Lightfoote is also a National Certified School Nurse.
“The process was very challenging and rewarding,” said Mr. Dock. “It required me to actively think about how and why I teach the way I do. It also greatly improved the way I use writing assignments to teach history and economics—composition helps create a greater understanding of the topic.”
Mr. Dock holds degrees from St. Lawrence University in economics, and SUNY Albany in curriculum development and instructional technology. This is his 14th year of teaching, and third year as social studies department chairperson. He also coaches the varsity alpine ski team.
“It is great to see such commitment to quality in education, and I congratulate Jeff on behalf of all of us here at GFSD,” said Superintendent Paul Jenkins.
