February 10, 2016 —
“This Founder's Day award she deserves // Never lets whining get on her nerves //
She leads us in a caring way, helps the kids and saves the day // That's why we love her—The Leader of the Pack!“ (referring to Big Cross Principal Debbie Hall, a 2016 Founders Day award recipient.)
Those words, sung to the tune of the Shangri-La’s 1960’s song, were just a few of the spirited accolades bestowed upon this year’s winners of the highest Parent-Teacher Association honors.
Eight individuals were honored at the district’s annual Founders’ Day event, held at the Middle School on Tuesday, February 9. The evening was a celebration of committed parent volunteers and/or staff members from each school. Each honoree had been selected to recognize his or her service and dedication to go above and beyond for the students of Glens Falls City Schools.
Songs, skits, and heartfelt tributes were part of the evening event, which also included a group of cheerleaders from Kensington, a Zumba video featuring Jackson Heights students, and a take-off of the Middle School’s morning announcements radio program.
Joy Muller-McCoola described Mr. Brechko’s and Mr. Manning’s morning announcements—which just started in September—saying they’ve changed the whole format of how GFMS starts the day. Every morning, the duo congratulates specific students on their accomplishments, and adds humor to reminders about events. “It’s just a nice way to get the day started.”
Congratulations and thank you to the 2016 Founders’ Day honorees:
