December 15, 2015 — Glens Falls seniors Scarlett DeWitt and Nora Borgos took first and second places, respectively, in the local American Legion Post 233 Oratorical Contest in early December.
"The girls each wrote and spoke a 10-minute speech on an aspect of the Constitution of the United States with emphasis on the duties and obligations of a citizen of our government," says teacher Donna Bates.
Both Scarlett and Nora will continue on to the Warren County competition on Jan. 4.
The purpose of the contest is to develop knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution. Other objectives include the development of leadership, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities and rights and privileges of American citizenship.
