Universal Pre-Kindergarten students in Sue Williams' classes at Jackson Heights held their own “Souper Bowl” contest in which they tried to collect 51 cans of soup to donate to The Open Door Mission!
First, students learned that this was Super Bowl 51, and used that number as their goal for the collection. Each day they counted the donated cans and practiced counting to 51.
"They learned which teams were playing in the Super Bowl and graphed their predictions for the winner," says Mrs. Williams. "Each class (AM and PM) reached their goal of collecting 51 cans, so they were able to donate 102 soup cans. That in itself is a winning 'Souper Bowl.'"
