Lauren Hauser sings in All-State Choir; Seven students perform in Area All-StatePhoto of students and staff

December 1, 2017 - In Rochester this weekend, GFHS junior Lauren Hauser is singing with the best musicians from around New York State!

The alto was selected from some 6,000 students who prepared a solo to be considered for All-State Chorus this year. “From that number, 900 students were chosen for the chorus who had scores of 98-100 on their solos,” explains music teacher Abigail Sery. She will sing in the Mixed Chorus on Sunday morning, under the direction of David Fryling from Hofstra University.

The performance comes on the heels of yet another accolade for Lauren and six of her fellow student-musicians at Glens Falls High—on November 17 and 18, seven band and chorus students traveled to Saratoga HS for the annual Area All-State performance. Honored musicians (above) include:

“The band students performed with the conductor Robin Linaberry,” says band teacher Jeremy Bouteiller. “They performed four very challenging pieces, but the highlight was Robert Sheldon's Danzas Cubanas which celebrated three music/dance styles from Cuba - Mambo, Salsa and Conga.”

“In the jazz ensemble, Sean Pettis performed under Grammy nominated trombonist Alan Ferber,” Mr. Bouteiller continued, “performing some of Ferber's original compositions as well as Pieces by Bill Holman and Thad Jones.”

"In Area All-State choir, these four students learned five pieces of music on their own before the festival weekend," says music teacher Abigail Sery. "The ensemble performed challenging music with excellent musicianship and professionalism."

Congratulations to each of these hardworking student-musicians!
