May 19, 2014 — Abigail Martelle, a fifth-grader at Glens Falls Middle School, is a winner in this year’s American Association of University Women essay contest. The winners were chosen from more than 400 essays submitted by students at several local school districts.

Each student’s essay described a notable woman in history. Abigail focused on Anne Frank and wrote, "Anne inspires me because no matter what trouble happens she is happy. She also has a caring heart."

“Her essay explored Anne Frank’s life but focused on how inspirational this young girl was to her own life,” said fifth-grade teacher Amity Luce-Aurilio. Abigail was honored at a celebration at Crandall Public Library on April 30.
