Freshman Mia Cote swimming in state meet

November 21, 2013 -- After a repeat performance as Section II champion in 100 butterfly, GFHS freshman Mia Cote is headed to the state meet—in two events. Mia will swim both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly at this year’s state meet. The preliminary round is Friday at Ithaca College, with the finals on Saturday.

“Mia repeated as Section II champion two weeks ago in the 100 Fly,” says girls varsity swim coach Kevin Crossman. “Her time of 57.47 was the second fastest ever in Glens Falls history. She now stands behind only Gail Armstrong's time of 57.06 for the school record.”

On Wednesday, dozens of teammates, coaches, school leaders and fellow students helped give Mia a send-off for her solo trip to the state meet.

“Mia is a sweetheart,” Coach Crossman continued. “She is a caring individual to everyone she is around. This character brings everyone into her corner rooting for her. She is an academic scholar, and obviously a phenomenal athlete! This athleticism stems from years of continuous hard work, discipline, and coachability! As her coach I am privileged to work with an individual this driven.”.
