Tammy Silvernell to serve as next GFHS Principal

October 14, 2016 — Educational leader Tammy C. Silvernell is set to become Glens Falls High School’s next principal as of January 3, 2017.

The Board of Education intends to appoint Mrs. Silvernell to the position at its meeting Monday night. She currently serves as the grades 7-12 principal at Cambridge Central Schools, with previous experience as an assistant principal at CCS, and as the foreign language department chairperson at Queensbury High School.

"Tammy comes to us with great experience as a high school principal,” says Superintendent Paul Jenkins. “She will be able to hit the ground running in January and we will have a seamless transition.”

"As a life-long resident of this area, and a former district employee, I am aware of the proud Glens Falls traditions and I am thrilled to help lead the school into the future,” says Mrs. Silvernell.

Mrs. Silvernell is returning to “GF Nation” after teaching Spanish at the Middle and High Schools from 1991-97. “The majority of my time was spent at the Middle School and I found it to be a very welcoming, student-focused staff,” recalls Mrs. Silvernell. “Toward the end of my time at Glens Falls, I was able to work on some district-level committees and my experiences there were overwhelmingly positive. I am still in contact with many students, parents and staff members from my time at Glens Falls, and I am really thrilled to be coming back.”

Mrs. Silvernell has more than two decades of public education experience, with a substantial background in curriculum alignment and use of data to improve the efficacy of educational programming. Her Masters degree and certificate in educational leadership are both from SUNY Plattsburgh. She holds state certifications in French and Spanish education, and in school building and district leadership.

“The students, families, and staff of GFHS will benefit from Tammy's vast knowledge base and her previous experience in Glens Falls as a middle school teacher,” Mr. Jenkins continued. “We are extremely fortunate to have Tammy back as an integral member of our leadership team.”

“I am very excited to become a part of the Glens Falls City School District,” says Mrs. Silvernell. “In my role as the High School Principal, I look forward to working with the students, staff, parents and members of the school community.”
