GFMS team accepts School to Watch award in Washington, D.C.Principals and staff members of GFMS smiling and holding an appreciation plaque in Washington DC

July 10, 2018 —
A delegation of GFMS staff members—including both the retiring and incoming principals—recently participated in the National Forum’s Schools to Watch conference and were honored yet again for the Middle School's re-designation as a School to Watch.

The team included math teacher Nikki Nastke, school counselor Laura Hammer, special educator Mary Williams, retiring principal Chris Reed, science teacher Megan McCabe, and incoming principal Kristy Moore. While in Washington, D.C., the team met with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's staff to advocate for continued support for middle level education, in addition to attending the informative breakout sessions at the conference.

This is the fourth time the Middle School has been honored as a School to Watch—a highly selective recognition for academic excellence, organizational structure and commitment to enhancing the school’s program and practices. Read more about the local celebration HERE.
