Keeping schools clean can feel like a daunting task. For our amazing custodial staff at Jackson Heights Elementary School, having someone like Dan Bromley leading the crew makes the task feel easier each day.
“Dan is like an ever-ready bunny, buzzing around opening doors, adjusting shades, lights, garbage cans, etc…he is incredibly helpful throughout the school day,” says one teacher. “Dan really cares about Jackson Heights. He fills in repeatedly to get rooms cleaned and keep things running smoothly!” echoes another.
“The most unique part of my job working for the school is the enjoyment of the environment working with kids,” says Mr. Bromley.
While his day-to-day tasks can change depending on the needs of the day, Mr. Bromley makes sure the hallways are clean, and takes care of any accidents students or faculty may have along the way. “The students can come to school without worrying about COVID-19 conditions affecting them with my overtime to keep the school safe and sanitized.”
Principal Carrie Mauro calls Mr. Bromley a “true steady” for the school, noting his dedication to getting things done through all the changes and stages of the COVID pandemic. “He adjusted, he moved furniture, he sanitized, he emptied garbages, he assisted in so many different ways,” says Ms. Mauro. “We would not have survived without Dan’s hard work!”
Mr. Bromley has been Jackson Heights’ head custodian for the last 23 years, and tackles every day with a positive attitude and passion for making sure everyone is kept safe. “The most rewarding part of my job is the stability. I have been at Jackson Heights for so long, and getting to bond with staff and students as they move through the years is special.”
And Dan’s service is helping students and staff get back to the joys of the elementary program, now that the worst of the pandemic is behind us. “Dan is always very helpful, especially with setting up chairs for the chorus and setting up the risers for our assemblies and concerts,” notes a colleague.
The Queensbury High School Class of ‘88 graduate loves music and relaxing at home with his dogs when he’s not roaming the halls. He also enjoys taking vacations when he has the time.
“He loves Jackson Heights and JH loves him!” exclaims Ms. Mauro.
