The main office is usually your first stop when entering Glens Falls Middle School, and with the friendly staff that makes up the foundation of the office … it’s often hard to leave. A core member of that staff is Vallie Konnight, the middle school’s secretary.
“The most unique thing about my job is learning all about the kids and getting to know their personalities and interests,” says Mrs. Konnight.
Her presence in the office has been a beacon of light for everyone that comes in contact with her. “Vallie joined the main office team and has become a perfect fit,” says Principal Kristy Moore. “She is a quick learner and always willing to do whatever it takes for our students and staff.”
Mrs. Konnight takes pride in helping students with the little things, making sure nothing gets overlooked during a busy school day. “I feel my service helps students achieve their goals in school by helping them find their classes and helping them with any issues or concerns they may have throughout the day.”
She keeps her eyes on the big picture when it comes to planning out her day at school, knowing that each day provides her an opportunity to make a difference for somebody. “There are many aspects of being a secretary that I enjoy, such as getting to know all the staff in the school and talking with a variety of people on the phone and in person,” says Mrs. Konnight. “However, the most rewarding part is having amazing co-workers and getting to know and understand all the students.”
Mrs. Konnight has been with the Glens Falls School District for three years, starting out as a cook in the cafeteria. She’s also been part of the custodial staff for the district before settling into her new role as secretary. She grew up in Rock Tavern before moving to Warrensburg in the seventh grade.
When she’s not in school, Mrs. Konnight loves getting to spend time with her two sons, Peyton and Nolan, whether that’s driving them to practice or going to their sporting events.
Her impact on the entire Glens Falls Middle School community is immeasurable, and her peers know how important she is to the day-to-day operations. “Vallie is kind, patient, and shares her smile with everyone in our community,” says Mrs. Moore.
