The Jackson Heights school community was overwhelmed once again by the generosity of the North Country Subaru Learning Love event! 15 teachers were awarded $500 each to purchase classroom items — from reading cards, to organization bins, to white boards and more.
“The generous donation from North Country Subaru helped purchase non-fiction books that are age appropriate for my young students,” said Kindergarten teacher Christy Sphur. “We were also able to get craft supplies and other learning tools that have enhanced math and ELA instruction.”
Awarding the funding to individual teachers allowed each classroom to load up on materials that meet unique needs for each grade level. For example, third grade teacher Liz Gross was able to put her donation towards multiplication and division tiles to help students practice their math more effectively.
“The tiles are stackable and the kids love calling out the answers,” said Mrs. Gross. “Another item I was able to order was hands-on literacy centers. These centers are great because the kids are practicing various literacy skills and having fun while doing them.”
UPK teacher Sue Williams said her funding from North Country Subaru went towards letter building kits, climbing steps, and a new magnetic board for her students to use. She echoed the sentiment all Jackson Heights Elementary teachers were feeling. “A HUGE thank you for their continued support towards our children’s education!”
