On Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 2:00PM, in the Glens Falls High School Auditorium, a ceremony was held to pay tribute to former, long-time Glens Falls High School Assistant Principal, Stanley E. Rummel. During his time at Glens Falls High, he touched and impacted the lives of thousands of students, parents, teachers and administrators. To this day he is still sought out for his wisdom and sage advice. Many still receive thoughtful hand-written notes from him offering everything from praises and encouragement to condolences and has continued to dedicate his life to others. A group of former Glens Falls High School students organized, with the assistance of the Glens Falls City School District and the School District Foundation of Glens Falls, NY, Inc., fundraising efforts to plant a tree, as well as, benches in his honor.
Tim Graham, former science teacher and now School Board President, was the emcee for the ceremony. Special guests participating included: Superintendent of Schools, Paul Jenkins, former Superintendents of Schools, Dr. Bill Bitner, Debbie Hall; Principal of Big Cross Elementary School, movie critic, Jay Bobbin, professional wrestler, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan (via video message), co- founder of Just Water, Drew Fitzgerald (via video message) and Glens Falls Mayor Dan Hall. After the event concluded, birthday cake was served, as it was Mr. Rummel’s 77th birthday that day.
There are thousands of stories where Mr. Rummel has touched people’s lives deeply whether it was in school or out, years ago or just recently. For that reason, it is only fitting that he be honored and recognized in this manner.
